Teach Cruachán Large-group Holiday Home will be your comfortable home-away-from-home on Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way. Whether you're part of a multi-generational family reunion, or a friends' long-promised get-together, you'll make yourself completely at home. The semi-professional kitchen is fully stocked with the equipment and appliances you need to produce a gourmet meal or a quick fry-up. There are spaces to meet and chat and others to get away to on your own. Teach Cruachán can accommodate up to 12 guests in its five comfortable guest rooms, each with TV and ensuite shower, toilet & basin. Three of the bedrooms have ocean views.
DOOAGH
Only 5km from iconic Keem Bay, and 3km from Keel Strand, lovely Dooagh boasts a great pub/restaurant, a cozy local pub, a gourmet shop with homebaking and great coffee, and even an old ballroom of romance that hosts occasional music concerts and events. It's also the home of Dooagh Folk Festival, Captain Boycott's Estate, the oldest summer school in Ireland - Scoil Acla - the highest sea cliffs in Western Europe, the lowest Corrie lake in Europe, the only basking shark fishery in Ireland (now obsolete), an amethyst quarry, a secret beach, and the list goes on.
The individually styled en-suite guest rooms in this top-rated former bed and breakfast are quiet and comfortable, with hotel quality beds and furnishings and homely seaside styling. ‘Work from home’, if you have to, on our free full-fibre WiFi broadband. Relax in the living/dining room that overlooks the Atlantic, curl up in the inside lounge with a log burning stove or sit on the south-facing paved terrace at the front of the house to watch dolphins and basking sharks in Dooagh Bay.
Owners Michael and Roisin live in a separate apartment adjacent to the holiday home. They are experienced hosts of many years who will help make your stay memorable, and they will be available by call or text if you need any assistance.

Achill Bikes bicycle hire also operates at the rear of the holiday home, and each weekly let receives free one-day standard bicycle hire for everyone in the group (value up to €30 each). There is parking for four vehicles at the front of the home reserved for residents. There is an additional space at the rear entrance and ample parking further back, if required, but be aware that they are accessed using a driveway shared with Achill Bikes and its customers, so take extra care.
When Hollywood Came to Achill Island
Local harbour transformed into film set for The Banshees of Inisherin
A new village was built in Purteen Harbour as a film set. The two-storey building was the shop and post office.
The old fishermen's sheds in Purteen were used as a base for the new village.
 Many of the important scenes were filmed at nearby Keem Beach
There was huge excitement on Achill in autumn 2021, when Martin McDonagh's film The Banshees of Inisherin was filmed at several locations around the island. It was released to great acclaim almost exactly a year later, in October 2022. While it received many awards, including a Best Actor Golden Globe for Colin Farrell, Oscar didn't make an appearance at all, a slight that disappointed all of us.
Several crew members stayed in Teach Cruachán during set construction and filming because three of the most important sets were located nearby: 1) Keem Bay, where Brendan Gleeson's character lived, 2) Corrymore Lake, where the 'Banshee' lived, and 3) Purteen Harbour, which was transformed into a fishing village with a shop and post office. J J Devine's Pub was built on the Atlantic Drive near Cloughmore, and Mass scenes shot at St Thomas's Church in Dugort. The sets were all taken down straight after filming finished, so the church, the sheds in Purteen harbour and the fisherman's hut in Keem Bay are the only buildings standing now. When you watch the film you can see how realistic the pub and shop were; even close inspection didn't reveal they were only made of plywood and plaster. The interiors were functional and the characters could have a real pint of Guinness in Devine's Pub. |
