Teach Cruachán has its own fully-licensed 14 seater Ford minibus. Your host, Michael Anthony, is the owner/operator of the vehicle, and he has been driving professionally for more than twenty years. As a provider of a rural transport service for older Achill residents, he also participates in regular driver training courses to keep his skills and knowledge right up to date.
Achill Tours offers a very interesting guided tour of Achill Island, with a taped commentary that is available in English, German and as Gaeilge. The tour covers 120 kilometers and lasts over two hours, not including the stops you'll want to make for taking photographs! It covers the Atlantic Drive, the Deserted Village, Captain Boycott's house, all five Blue Flag beaches, blanket bogs and mountains. Passengers will hear all about the geology, archaeology, history, famous sons and lifestyles of Achill, past and present. One of Achill's most famous artists was Paul Henry, who tore his return train ticket into shreds and scattered them to the sea just a few steps from Teach Cruachán.
Tours can be arranged to suit you and the weather, and cost from 15 Euro per person, depending on the number of passengers.
We can also meet your other transport needs, whether you'd like to be collected at the airport or train station, or simply to be driven around Achill from pub to pub! You can contact Michael Anthony directly on +353 87 2437686.
Achill's famous Deserted Village is visited on the Achill Tour
Keem Bay, the Jewel in the Crown of Achill's five Blue Flag beaches, is only 4 km from Teach Cruachán. Croaghaun Mountain is home to the Highest Sea Cliffs in Europe, at 610 meters. You can walk to the cliffs from the B & B.
